A Word of Caution
The cosmetic surgery is considered safe but there are complications associated with every procedure and the risk needs to be evaluated in every person .
Also, there exists a correlation between sufferers of body dysmorphic disorder and the predilection toward cosmetic plastic surgery.
It is a disorder where the sufferer thinks that the body has a defect and is preoccupied with it.
As the cosmetic procedures do not treat the disorder, the notion that there exists a defect may persist and lead to dissatisfaction and can ultimately worsen the problem.
Therefore, a surgeon may refer a patient for counseling before surgery if they believe there is an underlying problem that cannot be solved by the surgery.
For persons considering to undergo any cosmetic surgery should stop smoking or using any tobacco products several months prior to procedures, as they can interfere with wound healing.
