A a study published in the February issue of the American Journal of Kidney Diseases has reported that western diet is associated with a greater likelihood of the development of microalbuminuria and decline in renal function.
Microalbuminuria means excretion of small amounts of albumin to the urine.
The study also mentions that diets like Dietary Approach to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet may be protective.
Earlier studies have shown a definite link between chronic diseases as cardiovascular disease, but data for associations between dietary patterns and kidney function decline is sparse.
