This nevus is also called epidermal nevus, ichthyosis hystrix or nevus unius lateralis and is formed by excessive proliferation of the epidermal cells. Most of the lesions are present at birth, but some lesions may appear later also.
These occur in the form of asymptomatic hyperkeratotic, verrucous areas which may appear in a localized area or may be arranged either in a linear fashion or in irregular bizarre shapes, which may cover large areas on the body. [Read more...]
This nevus consists of an irregular area of hypopigmentation which tends to have a unilateral distribution. The lesion is present at birth and remains unchanged throughout life. It is produced by an abnormally exaggerated tendency of the cutaneous capillaries for vaso-constriction or constriction of blood vessels.
It is also called strawberry haemangioma and is made up of immature blood vessels which are lined by several layers of endothelial cells. It is usually not present when the child is born but appears during the first few months of life.
Medicines employed for promoting desquamation of the scales or thickened stratum corneum are called keratolytic agents.
